Bremont’s new Supermarine S302 is a glimpse of things to come

Bremont is a brand determined to push boundaries. In just a few months since Cerrato took on the role of CEO, he has already made his mark and has been won over by the brand’s functional design language and very British style of over-engineering. Revolution caught up with him to discuss design, the importance of details, and the strategic direction of this pioneering brand. So what does it look like when Cerrato applies his strong design experience to the updated Bremont Supermarine collection replica men watch? “The new 40mm S302 GMT design marks the first step in the design refresh of the Supermarine line,” explains Cerrato. “The design elements of a dive watch are highly standardized, and we sharpened them all in this first step. The watch is more visible and legible, with a new 24-hour unidirectional rotating bezel and more technical fonts. We tweaked the color of the GMT hand and changed the dial’s “Supermarine” name, 15, 45 and 60-minute [markers] and the London logo at six o’clock to orange. On the teal version, we also introduced a two-tone bezel insert to emphasize day and night time. The leather strap has also been improved, with a new, thinner, tapered integrated rubber strap for all models.”
In themselves, these changes are relatively incremental, but taken as a whole, the effect is impressive. While the name Supermarine is a nod to the legendary Supermarine Spitfire, this watch strays away from the brand’s traditional safe space of the skies. Of course, there’s plenty to like about the core models too; both the regular steel and black DLC-treated Jet versions feature Bremont’s famous Trip-Tick case construction, measuring 40mm in diameter and 13mm high. All models are available with a new integrated rubber strap as well as a vintage-style leather strap, and the steel version also comes with a steel bracelet. These new dive watches are just a preview of what’s to come, and Cerrato has a clear vision for the future of Bremont watches. “The name of the game is ‘simplify to amplify’ to build a single narrative focused on adventure and exploration.” Beyond that, Cerrato plans to offer a simpler product line with less focus on limited editions and model variations. “We will offer a clearer offering with three main product lines showcasing three main areas of exploration: sea, land and air. New complications are coming, and our design expression will be sharpened and will be more technical and unique.” On top of that, 2024 sounds like an exciting year as Bremont makes its debut at Watches and Wonders with a bang. “We will launch a new product line at Watches and Wonders in 2024, dedicated to land exploration and adventure. It will showcase our iconic watches for the next few years,” Cerrato said. In terms of the brand’s broader strategic direction, Cerrato is equally optimistic.
